Type Video

Also I recorded my screen while making the type for that album cover the other night (sorry for the watermark.) It's all in Photoshop this time-

More Park Drawings

Drawing more random people, sometimes inside sometimes outside- i cut out my favorite from the page and emphasized it a little.

Also just a quick reminder- I keep updating my subway drawings as much as I can.

Nichtsnutz

The translation the internet provides for the title of this song is "blighter" (/good-for-nothing..) and that is what Massive Töne's song Nichtsnutz is about. It came out on their debut album Kopfnicker probably around the mid-nineties and although it's the only album of theirs I ever liked- this particular song is one of my all-time favorites. It's a little cheesy but ultimately just about a guy that prefers his music over his day job, despite the sacrifices that choice brings along.

I started out coming up with the type and then realized it needs an illustration too.. So here it is, lots of digitally trickery.. trying to use Photoshop in a useful way.

Nina Simone/Computerz

When I was listening to Nina Simone the other night I made a marker sketch on paper but decided it didn't look the way I wanted it to.. So I scanned it in and drew over it in photoshop to then sort of overphotoshop it, trying hard to emulate some sense of real-world-media.. Which at this point has gotten to become a strange form of high-level nerdery. Between literally copying the registration mistakes of having color-seperated printing plates, the 30 year-old card stock that a Nina Simone record would be on today and finding the best method in photoshop to have real-looking grainyness to it all, there's so much to play with and regulate. This image ultimately only represents a speck on the way to figuring out a sensical balance between hand-drawn, emulation and new things that come out of it. But that's what this blog is for I think.

German Rap Quotes

Since these are in German I might just write about them in German, too...

*edit: I was asked to translate these but it's like translating a joke or poetry.. it's hard! So for now just literal translations.

Von Sido auf Maske ("A as in Alright- but first lets smoke")

Von Smudo(?) auf Fornika ("It's not philosophy-it is stoned conversation")

Von Maxim auf Sexismus gegen Rechts ("Oh yah, I'm imagining you're my sink..")

Homage to Entbs

After the last Retrogott & Hulk Hodn post and the Radio Love Love thing here's another drawing I made relating to the so called Entbs label (formerly Entourage Business from what I know..), the musical environment around Cologne and goodness in general. The image represents my impression of the general idea that seems to evolve around them, their music and ideals.
They barely seem to make a profit of it all, more of a hobby almost and yet they're very dedicated, mixing productions reminiscent of the 1990s golden age hip hop and maybe a little of what the folks at the American label Stones Throw are doing with contemporary topics.
When the rap scene over in Germany slowly but surely dissolved into a weird mass of supposed gangster rappers and pop music around the early 2000s I kept wondering how the stuff from before that just stopped existing and how it could have been that much of fad to the crowds. So now its good to hear from these guys filling exactly that gap that its become at this point even if they're catering to a smaller market. In my thankfulness for good music to listen to here's my 'homage' to their project.
