Leviathan

This was done for Chris Buzelli's class- the assignment was a nod to Jacob Covey's "Beasts" compilation and I chose the Leviathan. Although there are many different versions of this beast out there I chose the apparently christian one of it being some sort of underwater gate to hell.

Final first (ca 28x20 in/click to enlarge things):

The whole things is poster size and so even this sketch was huge:

Then I started tracing over it in photoshop:

I was experimenting with colored lines in this rather than just black ink+color fills

Details along the way:

Modular Illustration

More of this puzzle business- These were for a variety of tests- textures, scale, repetition etc. I hope I can make this into some sort of functional system- next up in terms of figuring out how to do it 'properly' would be to have more live things interact with the environments that come from this tiling process.
They were drawn on paper and photoshop colored.

Also click to enlarge as always on here.

Flying Lotus Poster

This was for class, we drew a band from a hat and I got Flying Lotus. I thought of the Mandelbrot set, vague memories from math class and aqueous soundscapes when I heard it. The typography was also a big point in that I've been curious about the boundaries of our alphabet here in the west. It seems like something that could be updated at this point. Maybe not most representative in this one but still something I would like to keep in mind in the future.

Sketch

Final:

Fegefeuer

I made this somewhere in between classes last semester. The image had been stuck in my head for a while.

Hand Writing

A couple of weeks ago I hand painted the title of my friend Matt's senior show-

After that I came home and worked on some other things to silkscreen. This time with markers on acetate though-

I guess tenor saw might have preferred a siren or something instead of an alarm clock but it's just what came to mind:

and then theres this:

These are all just doodles, really but I'll put up something more refined soon.

Smyth Sewn Book

I made this empty book recently with silkscreened cloth cover and endsheets, a headband (that's that striped little piece of cloth on top of the spine) and everything- finally figured out how to do it correctly and well.

Post Graduation

Now that graduation is done I have some time to catch up on the posting. Here is a small painting ( about 6x8 cm) and a detail that I maybe like better than the actual piece..more to follow soon, mostly stuff from the semester for now.
